Esther's Hit Notes: Music. Humor. Me

THE CURIOUS CASE OF TERRY G

Terry Ginger’s  recent single is called ‘Jah Hailo’ and his new album is titled ‘Terry G’zuz’ (doesn’t that sound familiar to you?).  And then the white garment, the bells...
Am I the only one who is curious?
What the heck is Terry G up to?
I remember when Terry G came out a few years ago with his hit song titled ‘sexky’.   The song was a favourite then (aside the rap).   I remember the video- he appeared normal and calm to me.   And then he unleashed ‘Free madness’...
Currently he is dashing out 'akpako' and made mention of been called ‘Lucifer’ in his new ‘jah Hailo’ single.  None of my biz though, he can be called whatever he wants to be called but this ‘Jah’, ‘Gzus’ and ‘Elijah’ name thingy going on is not funny at all.  I must say that such sounds/words/names are not for vain use at all - don't y'all agree?
Meanwhile, there is this ‘Terry Gist’ going around the internet that Terry G has  been accused again of illegally turning some other music artiste’s song into his own song.  This time around the artiste in question is ‘Danny Young’- producer/music artiste.  Danny Young made a few changes to the original song, released and titled it ‘ELI jah’.  You can listen to both songs on naija's popular music site notjustok.com.

I found out about this on the internet and also heard it on radio:
A 300level English language student of Adekunle Ajasin University has accused wizkid of allegedly stealing the hit song 'Pakurumo' which she wrote and performed at a show in Ado Ekiti last year during the tour of a popular rapper. . . . She expressed shock at the inclusion of her song in Wizkid's album. ''I bought a copy in Akure and right there, track four is my song. He even retained my title of the song, but tried his best to alter the Ekiti dialect that gave the song a special appeal". . . .However, she says she is not surprised his mentor sampled a popular female us- based musician's song that brought him fame. Birds of the same feather", she claimed "I may be poor, but I’ve sent the video to a lawyer and very soon, the guy will soon be exposed for who he is. I can't believe Nigerians fawn after the guy knowing well that he is not that talented, forget the voice", she added

I just hope this is not another hate move and it’s real because there is no proof yet from this lady showing us how ‘Pakurumo’ is her song.  She didn’t upload any video, audio...nada.  Above all I hope EME will not let this matter or allegation just lay like that. I believe they know better and would take necessary actions regarding this issue whether it’s true or false.

The babe sef...shey na dat wan come make am dey disrespect Mr Banky and to also express her displeasure over Wiz’s acceptance by Nigerians.  She is in no place to say whether Wizkid is talented or not.  If she is talented.... (Republic, I beg finish the sentence).  I’m not saying using people’s song without their permission is right but there is a need to be professional about doing things.

GOLDIE IS

I must say – from a music lover’s perspective- that the guys who did the make-up, hairdo and costuming of Goldie’s ‘don’t touch my body’ video did a great job.  I also  think that video is one of Clarence Peters’ best.  And I have to say this about Goldie...
Some of us have taken back every word we said  while we watched her on TV when she appeared on our TV screen with her gold hair and long eye lashes singing ‘if we talk we go wowwy (worry)  them’.
‘Babes’ is a consistent, persistent, hardworking diva.
Goldie: You have proven your point.  You drove it home.
Goldie is unique, different...a chic of excellence
I say she is talented majorly because she knows how to use what she has irrespective of ‘how much’ it is.  ‘Babes’ is a pacesetter.

Goldie is ‘out of the box’- out of the Nigerian box especially.

I hope you agree with me.

On a final note:

Catch you 2mao...

FAN REPUBLIC: FAN ROUNDTABLE

NAETO C, the ‘P’and his MSc

Peeps I’m so curious...

Is Naeto C really the only artiste with an MSc?

Does it really matter se? Well, we’ll see...

So, Mr Naeto dropped the ‘P’ and picked up an ‘MSc’ brandishing it before this market.

Sheesh...The ‘P’ was classy, swag (Note: I didn’t say ‘swagger’. Puleeez) and a great deal of street music lovers didn’t seem to get it... Well, the ‘P’ wasn’t exactly for the majority and they rather buy ‘swagger’.  Argh! The game.

Oh! How we bonded with Mr Naeto when he realised this and he raved ‘kini big deal’.  Yeah!  ‘kini big deal?’  Mr ‘C’ threw the ‘P’ into the air jo!

When I heard the 10/10 song and watched the video many months ago...

The light bulb in my head came on.

I began to think, Mr Naeto could be the ultimate music Icon... to help gear Nigerian music and message in a whole new positive direction.  After all, entertainment does not always have to be dirty; communicating backwardness, laziness and fraud.

There’s a large amount of young people who have completely turned their backs on education but just want to sing; hoping music will bring quick success.  They’ve got their eyes on the cars, the money and the girls...only.

We can tell from the  mammoth crowd that show up for auditioning in our musical reality shows with quite a percentage who can’t fully express themselves talk less sing.

Being a music artiste of excellence and owning an MSc is not exactly an easy task. Isn’t that why Mr Naeto can brag about it?

OK school or no school.  There are a couple of successful and respectable big acts whose continuous success and constant results are a product and reflection of their persistency, consistency and hard work (+ God’s grace); especially in the days of their small beginnings.  They are actually educated.

But why are we not communicating this message of ‘impactainment’ to the young people.

Music and music peeps-generally- have done enough damage to the brains and spirit of the younger generation.

It is time to be artistically socially responsible. Yep.

So I thought, Mr Naeto maybe passing across a message of hope and relevance with his buy line, “the only artiste with an MSc”, and lifeline ‘knowledge, work and talent’ (My assumption).

Mr Naeto is not just bragging or trying to create offence. He’s probably impactaining (making impact and entertaining).
